Park Overview

Nestled in Kent's East Hill, Morrill Meadows Park spans a generous 21.1 acres of public green space. The park features a mix of wild natural areas and developed recreational spaces, offering Kent residents a place to enjoy the outdoors.

Walking Trails

If you're in the mood for a leisurely stroll, the quarter-mile trail circling the eastern meadow provides an excellent route. Nature enthusiasts can venture onto the additional quarter-mile loop that branches northward, winding through a serene forested section.

Tucked within this wooded trail, you'll discover the "In the Grove" art installation - an intriguing collection of rock spheres in various sizes that add an artistic touch to your nature walk. The forest area offers a peaceful retreat from everyday hustle, but be aware that some sections might be a bit less manicured depending on the season.

Recent Renovations

Morrill Meadows was renovated in 2023-2024, reopening in May 2024 after a $1.59 million project. The renovations included several improvements to the park's facilities.

The playground area now has improved ADA access, new swings, and a nature play area with logs and stumps for kids to explore. You'll also find updated park furniture, better lawn spaces with irrigation systems, and a permanent stage where community events and summer concerts can now take place.

Playground

The newly renovated playground features artificial turf surfacing instead of traditional wood chips - meaning less mess on clothes and shoes! The play equipment is designed for children roughly 3-4 years and older, with plenty to keep energetic kids entertained.

Colorful swings (which can get busy during peak times), a metal slide built into a hillside, and various creative structures make this playground particularly appealing. The design supports active play while remaining accessible for different age groups.

Amenities

Planning a gathering? The park has a sheltered picnic area with about six tables, public grills, and electrical outlets - suitable for family reunions or birthday celebrations.

Clean restrooms are available during park hours (though they may close seasonally). The expansive grassy areas provide plenty of space for informal games, afternoon picnics, or simply lounging with a good book.

Dog Park

Right next to Morrill Meadows sits a 3.5-acre off-leash dog park that opened in 2010. This space is divided into separate areas for large dogs and small/shy dogs, allowing all dogs to play safely.

Dog owners can relax on benches in shaded areas while their pets socialize, and there's a dog water fountain available - though bringing your own water isn't a bad idea, especially on busy days. While generally well-maintained, be prepared for some dust during dry spells or mud after rainy days.

Location

The park sits conveniently next to the Kent YMCA, creating a nice pairing of indoor and outdoor recreation options. They share a parking lot with plenty of spaces, making access straightforward even during busier times.
