About the Location
Play Areas for the Little Ones
Cascade Playground splits its play zone into two distinct areas that accommodate different age groups - smart design if you ask us! You'll discover all the classics here: swings, slides, a thrilling zipline, and various climbing structures that will keep the kiddos challenged and entertained.
The "hot lava" obstacle course is a definite hit with children - we mean, who doesn't love pretending the ground is made of lava? There's a dedicated space for the preschool crowd and another for the bigger kids, so everyone has their appropriate adventure zone.
And don't miss the sand area with digger tools - it's where budding construction workers and archaeologists spend hours happily digging away.
Get Your Game On
The heart of Cascade Playground features a generous open field that's meant for whatever activity strikes your fancy - whether that's tossing a frisbee, having an impromptu picnic, or just sprawling out with a good book. The grassy area gives you plenty of room to move.
For basketball enthusiasts, there's a half-court with one hoop where you can practice your shots or enjoy a casual pickup game.
Getting Around
Nice paved paths meander across the grounds, making it easy to navigate with strollers or wheelchairs. If you're feeling a bit more adventurous, check out the natural walking path across from the playground.
This longtime public space is a welcome green retreat in the Cascade neighborhood of Seattle. Taking up an entire city block, it's a verdant oasis amid the urban landscape of South Lake Union.
Urban Farming at its Finest
Right next to the playground, you'll come across an active community p-patch where local green thumbs tend their plots. It's rather special watching urban agriculture in action, and it adds a unique dimension to this community space.
The Practical Stuff
When nature calls, you'll appreciate the restroom facilities that stay open late and are typically well-stocked and maintained.
Planning to stay a while? The picnic tables are positioned so you can keep an eye on the kids while they play. There are even charcoal grills available if you want to cook up something tasty. This layout makes family gatherings and community get-togethers more convenient.
There's also a water fountain, but be aware it's occasionally turned off.
The park strikes a nice balance between play zones and quieter green spaces. While there are some shady spots scattered about, much of the park basks in sunlight, so remember your sunscreen on bright days.
On Sundays starting at 1:30 PM, the park hosts a food bank that primarily distributes surplus items from PCC Community Markets.
Neighborhood Hub
Located in the heart of Cascade, this park offers a green space in Seattle's urban environment. Neighbors gather here, and the park occasionally hosts events like outdoor movie nights.
A quick note about four-legged friends: While there are some signs indicating no dogs allowed, you'll often see people bringing their pups to socialize and run around in the open field. Just be mindful and respectful if you decide to bring your furry companion along.
