About the Location
Play & Recreation Spots
Located in Seattle's upper Queen Anne neighborhood, East Queen Anne Playfield (also lovingly known by locals as Little Howe Park) is that perfect little green escape surrounded by quiet residential streets. It's not enormous, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in charm and community feel.
This park has become something of a neighborhood hub - you'll often find local families gathering here, especially those with younger kids in tow. There's something wonderfully unpretentious about this space that makes you feel instantly at home.
Kid-Friendly Fun
The playground here is a kid magnet with all the essentials: slides, climbing structures, and a whirl that'll have little ones giggling for hours. Both regular and baby swings mean everyone from toddlers to bigger kids can get in on the fun.
One of the real highlights is the generous sandbox area where a lovely community tradition has formed - toys are often left behind for everyone to share. It's these little touches that make the park special. If you've got children 10 and under, they'll be in their element here.
Sports & Activity Areas
Beyond the playground, the park offers space to burn off energy with a soccer field and baseball/softball fields. The fields are excellent for everything from casual kickarounds to organized T-ball for the youngest athletes.
Need a breather? Comfortable benches are scattered around the grounds - perfect spots to supervise playing children or simply sit back with a book and enjoy a peaceful moment outdoors.
The Layout
Interestingly, the park is split into two distinct levels - a quirk of the natural topography that actually works beautifully. The upper section houses most of the sports courts and some play areas, while the lower level features the wading pool and additional playground equipment.
This natural division creates nice separation between different activities, with the field area spreading across the west side and the wading pool zone situated on the east.
Summer Splash Zone
When Seattle's summer finally arrives, the wading pool becomes the place to be. Typically open from late June through mid-August (Sunday through Tuesday, noon to 7 p.m.), it's a simple but perfect spot for kids to splash around and cool off on warm days.
Amenities & Parking
The park covers the basics with clean restrooms and pleasant picnic areas that are great for everything from birthday celebrations to casual weekend lunches.
One heads-up about visiting: there's only street parking available, which can fill up quickly - especially on those rare perfect Seattle weather days. You might need to park a few blocks away and walk, but consider it a nice opportunity to explore the charming Queen Anne neighborhood on your way.
