The park offers plenty of open grassy areas where you can toss a frisbee, spread out a picnic blanket, or simply lounge with a good book. Sports enthusiasts will appreciate the athletic field that's set up for junior soccer and softball games, complete with a baseball diamond and soccer goals standing ready for impromptu matches.

While not officially designated as a dog park, the spacious grounds give four-legged friends room to stretch their legs on long leads - something many dog owners in the area appreciate.

In 2022, Fairmount Park received a nice refresh, particularly in the play area closest to the school. The newly updated playground features multiple slides for different thrill levels, an overhead ring trek for monkey-bar enthusiasts, a small net climber, and a suspension bridge that's popular with children.

Interestingly, the park actually houses two separate play areas for children. You'll come across classic swings, a nostalgic merry-go-round (a rare find these days!), and jungle gym structures that challenge growing climbers. Parents often mention how the playground's modest size makes it easy to keep an eye on both children and pets simultaneously - a practical perk for multitasking caregivers.
