About the Location
Historic Community Green Space
Established in 1908 when the City of Seattle acquired the land, Roanoke Park was designed as an attractive community green space with lawns, plant beds, and a network of paths. The park occupies a full city block bounded by East Edgar Street to the north, East Roanoke Street to the south, 10th Avenue East to the east, and Broadway East to the west.
This 2.2-acre public park is located in the north Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle. The park serves as a focal point and gathering place for the surrounding residential neighborhood.
Natural Features
The park features grassy open areas shaded by mature trees, including some fruit trees that blossom in the spring. Its location offers views of the Montlake Bridge and University of Washington campus to the northeast.
Roanoke Park's green spaces and benches make it an ideal spot for picnics, relaxation, and enjoying nature within the urban environment.
Recreation and Historic Significance
A playground area with equipment for children is one of the main amenities in the park. The play structures provide recreational opportunities for families and young residents of the neighborhood.
Roanoke Park is within a historic district that was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2009, recognizing the area's early 20th century architectural styles.
