About the Location
Stunning Views All Around
Set in Seattle's Magnolia neighborhood, Magnolia Park spans a generous 12.1 acres atop Magnolia Bluff. The highlight here? The impressive jaw-dropping views. From this elevated perch, you can take in Puget Sound, gaze at the Seattle skyline, and on those crystal-clear days, the Olympic Mountains create a postcard-perfect backdrop that'll have you reaching for your camera.
If you're into boat-watching, you've found your spot. The bluff position makes it ideal for observing vessels of all sizes crossing Puget Sound. And we should tell you about the sunsets - they're spectacular. Many locals consider this one of Seattle's premier viewpoints, and it's easy to see why when the sky transforms into a canvas of oranges and pinks over the water.
Natural Beauty to Enjoy
The park features a gentle, grassy slope that's great for picnics. Providing welcome shade are large madrona trees - which, fun fact, were mistakenly identified as magnolias by a Navy geographer, giving the park its somewhat misleading name.
These distinctive trees add character to the landscape, while a ravine running along the lower perimeter gives the park some interesting terrain. Bird enthusiasts, keep your binoculars handy - the park attracts various feathered visitors, with some lucky park-goers having spotted bald eagles soaring overhead.
Places to Play and Relax
For family gatherings or outdoor meals, you'll find picnic areas with tables and BBQ grills. Kids can burn off energy at the playground with swings, while tennis players can take advantage of the courts for a friendly match.
If you prefer a leisurely stroll, follow the walking trails that meander through the park, offering different perspectives of the breathtaking surroundings. When you need a break, you'll discover plenty of benches scattered throughout, especially along the lower areas - perfect spots to sit, breathe deeply, and soak in the views.
Good to Know Before You Go
The park welcomes visitors daily from 4:00 AM to 11:30 PM. Since it's tucked away in a residential neighborhood, you'll often find it less crowded than Seattle's downtown parks, making it a peaceful escape from the city bustle.
You'll discover restroom facilities on-site, but they're basic - nothing fancy here. Parking is a breeze, with ample spaces in a well-maintained lot, so you won't have to circle around hunting for a spot.
More Ways to Enjoy the Park
Dog owners appreciate the open areas where their four-legged friends can get some exercise (just remember to keep them leashed). Cyclists often include the park in their routes, pausing to appreciate the scenery before continuing their rides.
One thing to note: while the park offers fantastic views of the water, there's no direct access to the waterfront from the park itself. That said, the panoramic vistas of Puget Sound with mountains in the distance make this quiet retreat worth visiting no matter the season.
