About the Location

Park Overview

Garfield Park is a 5-acre community park located in the North End neighborhood of Tacoma, Washington. Established in the early 20th century, with the first parcels acquired in 1912 and additional acreage added through 1927, the park serves as a popular recreational space for local residents.

Amenities and Features

The park features a mix of open green spaces and recreational facilities. One of its notable features is an outer track that measures 1,391.7 feet in length, or just over a quarter mile (424 meters), providing a convenient circuit for walkers and joggers.

The park also includes sports facilities and play areas, catering to a variety of age groups and interests.

Natural Areas

Garfield Park is nestled in a residential area and includes a section known as Garfield Gulch, which offers trails through a more natural, wooded environment.

This combination of developed park areas and natural spaces provides visitors with diverse experiences within a relatively compact urban park setting.

Park Management

Through a partnership agreement, Annie Wright School assists with park maintenance, including tasks such as litter pickup, lawn care, and court maintenance. In exchange, the school receives priority use of the field for its physical education and athletic programs.

Visitor Information

It's important to note that while Garfield Park is a dog-friendly area, it is not designated as an off-leash dog park. Visitors with dogs are expected to keep their pets leashed to ensure safety for all park users and to help maintain the park's turf quality.
