About Chinook Neighborhood Park
Recreational Features
This cozy park has well-kept grounds with open grassy spaces great for whatever activity strikes your fancy. You can meander along the walking paths that wind through the park - great for a morning jog or a leisurely afternoon stroll. There's also a paved path that crosses over a charming bridge, adding a touch of whimsy to your walk.
The park thoughtfully blends active and passive recreational elements, so whether you're looking to break a sweat or just find a quiet moment, there's a spot for you. Those small green areas scattered throughout? Perfect for spreading out a blanket for an impromptu picnic or simply lounging with a good book.
Playground
Chinook Neighborhood Park has a well-designed playground that's kept in tip-top shape. The play area cleverly splits into two main sections - one that's just right for the toddler crowd and another that keeps the 5-12 year olds entertained. Little ones love the swings and the variety of play structures that seem to spark endless adventures.
The playground is nestled among trees and bushes, creating a natural hideaway where kids can play.
ADPortland Japanese American History Walking Tour
Come join our tour to learn about the history of the Japanese American community in Portland and how it has helped shape the unique culture of our city! This 1.2-mile walking tour through Waterfront Park and parts of NW Portland’s historic Japantown explores the history of the Japanese immigration to the region, the unjust incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II, and present-day cultural ties between Portland and Japan.
Amenities
Need a break? There are several picnic tables and benches placed along the walking paths and near the playground. These spots are good for resting, people-watching, or keeping an eye on the kids as they play.
There are trash cans available to help keep the park looking its best. Note that you won't find public restrooms or water fountains here, so plan accordingly.
Community Resource
Completed in 2014, Chinook Neighborhood Park emerged as part of Clark County's effort to create accessible green spaces for locals. Nestled near Chinook Elementary and Skyview High School, it's become a natural gathering spot for neighbors to connect.
While it may not be the largest park around, what it lacks in size it makes up for in charm - it's well-maintained, clean, and offers a peaceful retreat away from the hustle and bustle of main roads.
Accessibility
As a neighborhood park, Chinook offers casual recreation space while preserving green space. Its location is within easy walking and biking distance for most users, particularly those living within a half-mile radius.
Parking is limited to street options in the surrounding neighborhood, but that's rarely an issue. Most folks simply walk, bike, or scoot their way over from nearby homes, making it a convenient local park.
