Oakbrook Park
About Oakbrook Park
Natural Setting
Located in Central Vancouver, Washington, Oakbrook Park spreads across a generous 13.6 acres - surprisingly spacious for a neighborhood park. With its abundance of shade trees and tranquil atmosphere, it feels like a little escape from the urban hustle.
This green space provides a nice spot for anyone looking to play, unwind, or simply reconnect with nature without leaving the city. If you're lucky, you might catch the chorus of frogs singing from the wetland areas. On clear evenings, the park's open spaces make it a nice spot to gaze up at the night sky.
Current Renovations
Just a heads-up: Oakbrook Park is in the midst of a makeover. The renovation is happening in phases, and the old playground has already been removed to make way for exciting new features.
Don't worry though - the park remains open during construction. You can still enjoy walks, find a peaceful corner to relax, or appreciate the natural surroundings while improvements are underway.
Upcoming Improvements
A new nature play area is scheduled to be ready in summer 2024. This space will give kids a place to play while introducing them to elements of the local ecosystem.
The first phase of improvements includes a new playground with a wetlands theme, thoughtfully designed to be inclusive and accessible for people of all ages and abilities - because everyone deserves a chance to play.
Playground Design
The playground plans include a 7-foot accessible play hill with a large slide, rock scramble, climbing handholds, and an accessible ramp.
These features are designed to connect with the park's natural character and environment.
Additional Amenities
Currently, a paved loop path winds through the grounds, excellent for a leisurely stroll or a brisk walk. You'll come across several picnic tables and benches scattered throughout, ideal spots to enjoy a packed lunch or simply sit and watch the world go by.
The renovation plans include four pickleball courts - positioned thoughtfully to minimize noise for neighbors. A berm and trees will be added near the courts to act as a sound buffer while providing welcome shade on sunny days.
For convenience, a Portland Loo restroom facility is being installed near the new playground. This single-stall option is built to be durable and low-maintenance - practical considerations for a well-used community space.
Recreation Areas
If you're looking for space to move, the park features an open field that's excellent for casual sports, frisbee tossing, or just running around. These grassy areas provide plenty of room to spread out and play.
Oakbrook Park offers a mix of sunny open spaces and shaded areas - giving you options whether you're looking for sun or shelter during your visit.
