About Alumni Park in Madison
Alumni Park is a 1.3-acre green space located on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus between Memorial Union and the Red Gym, stretching from Langdon Street to Lake Mendota. The park opened in October 2017 after being envisioned in campus master plans dating back to 1908.
The park features over 50 outdoor exhibits and artworks that celebrate the history and achievements of UW-Madison alumni. More than 120 exceptional alumni are honored through various installations throughout the space. The exhibits aim to tell the story of what it means to be a UW "Badger" and showcase how alumni have impacted Wisconsin and the world.
Alumni Park contains over 34,000 square feet of green space, including lawns, gardens, and a lakefront area. The landscaping includes over 7,800 trees, shrubs, grasses, flowers and perennial plants. Key features include an 80-foot long Badger Pride Wall with whimsical UW-themed artwork, a granite water fountain, and lake views.
The park was designed to be both an enjoyable outdoor space and an educational experience. It functions as an art gallery, museum, and tribute to UW-Madison's history and traditions. The Wisconsin Alumni Association led the development of the park as a gift to the university from alumni and supporters.
Adjacent to the park is One Alumni Place, a visitor center where people can get maps and information about the park and campus. The park is open to the public and aims to be a welcoming destination for alumni, students, and visitors to reflect on UW-Madison's impact.
