History and Development
Veterans Memorial Park is a 5.34-acre neighborhood park located in Madison, Wisconsin. Situated on the city's southeast side, the park was developed as part of the Liberty Place subdivision.
The creation of this park began in 2004 when local veterans recognized the need for a dedicated memorial space within Madison's park system.
Memorial Features
The centerpiece of Veterans Memorial Park is a thoughtfully designed memorial area. This space includes a pergola, seating, and a plaza, providing visitors with a place for quiet reflection and remembrance.
The memorial features a flag corps, honoring the service and sacrifice of veterans. In an environmentally conscious decision, the park utilizes solar lights and blue reflective glass instead of a traditional water fountain, reducing maintenance costs and environmental impact.
Personalized Tributes
A notable feature of the memorial is its brick walkway. Friends and family members of veterans have the opportunity to purchase personalized bricks from VFW Post 7591, allowing for individual tributes within the larger memorial space.
Recreational Amenities
Beyond its role as a memorial, Veterans Memorial Park serves as a recreational area for the local community. The park includes walking and biking trails, offering residents opportunities for exercise and outdoor enjoyment.
Families with children can make use of the playground equipment, while sports enthusiasts can take advantage of the basketball courts.
