About the Location

A Nearby Park

Situated in a peaceful Madison neighborhood, Lake Edge Park offers a cozy 5-acre retreat on the east side of the city. Just a couple blocks from Cottage Grove Road and near Dempsey Road, this little green haven provides a quiet escape from the hustle and bustle without having to venture far from home.

What You'll Find

The park strikes that perfect balance between sunny open spaces and cool shaded areas under mature trees. No matter if you're a sun-seeker or prefer to relax in the shade, you'll come across your perfect spot here.

The large open field at the heart of the park is wonderfully versatile - throw a frisbee around, kick a soccer ball, or organize an impromptu baseball game. It's essentially a blank canvas for whatever outdoor activity you're in the mood for.

Despite what the name might suggest, Lake Edge isn't actually lakeside, but beautiful Lake Monona is nearby, adding to the area's charm.

Practical Amenities

The recently renovated shelter is definitely a highlight if you're planning a gathering. With about six full-size picnic tables and plenty of seating, it's excellent for family reunions, birthday parties, or just a well-organized lunch date. Remember that you'll need to reserve it ahead of time if you want to guarantee its use.

You'll also find separate men's and women's restrooms in a small building nearby, along with a convenient water fountain - always appreciated during those warm Wisconsin summer days.

If you have kids in tow, the playground area offers the usual suspects: swings, slides, and climbing equipment that will keep the little ones entertained while you relax nearby.

Get Active

Feel like shooting some hoops? The park's basketball court sits on one side of the grounds, great for a quick game or just practicing your jump shot.

One unique feature that sets Lake Edge apart is its free-to-use disc golf basket. If you're into disc golf or curious to try it out, this is a great spot to practice your putting skills or do some field work without committing to a full course.

Good to Know

The shelter has convenient drive-up access, making it much easier to unload supplies for picnics or events. Parking can be a bit limited right at the park, but you'll usually find space on the surrounding streets.

Note that alcohol isn't allowed in the park unless you've secured a permit through the Parks Administrative Office beforehand.

When to Visit

The park welcomes visitors daily from 4 AM to 10 PM, giving you plenty of time to enjoy this neighborhood treasure, whether you're an early bird or prefer evening outings.
