A Glimpse into the Past
In the 1970s, when developers had other plans for this slice of history, passionate community activists stepped in to save it. Their goal was to recreate the ambiance of the Victorian gardens that once dotted the neighborhood in the 19th century, and the result is Period Garden Park - a quarter-acre pocket of elegance at the intersection of East Gorham and North Pinckney Streets in Madison's historic Mansion Hill District.
The land itself has deep roots: it was once the front lawn of the Elisha W. Keyes House from 1853. Their efforts have preserved this unique piece of Madison's history.
