Park Overview

Found in the heart of downtown Milwaukee, Cathedral Square Park is a cozy urban oasis spanning 2.2 acres. This full city block, surrounded by Kilbourn Avenue, Wells Street, Jackson Street, and Jefferson Street, functions as the green heart of Milwaukee's East Town neighborhood - a place where city life slows down just enough to catch your breath.

Historical Background

This little patch of Milwaukee comes with some serious history. Originally dubbed Courthouse Square, the land was a gift from city co-founder Solomon Juneau back in 1837, designated for Milwaukee County's first courthouse and jail.

In 1873, a grander courthouse took its place, standing proud until 1931 before being demolished. By 1939, the space had transformed into the public park we know today. Its name, Cathedral Square Park, nods to the nearby Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist - a gorgeous architectural backdrop that gives the park an extra touch of character.
