About the Location
Park Overview
Tucked away in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Popuch Park is a cozy 11.6-acre green retreat that is the neighborhood's backyard. Part of the Milwaukee County Parks system, this modest but charming space blends open areas with recreational spots that local residents can easily access just across from their homes.
Playground Fun
The playground area is getting a much-needed facelift! After serving little ones since 1999, the park equipment is scheduled for replacement in 2024.
The upcoming playground will feature ADA-accessible elements with separate structures designed specifically for the 2-5 year old crowd and their 5-12 year old counterparts. Gone will be the days of sand in shoes and socks - the new surface will upgrade to poured-in-place (PIP) rubber or a mix of rubber and engineered wood fiber, making playtime both safer and less messy.
For now, kids can still enjoy the existing swings and climbing equipment that have faithfully served the community for years.
Get Active
Ball enthusiasts can shoot some hoops at the park's two half-court basketball courts - excellent for a quick game or practicing those three-pointers.
There's also a versatile multi-use field where you can kick a soccer ball around or organize an impromptu game of touch football. Just remember to bring any equipment you might need, as the field is more of a blank canvas for your sporting adventures.
Natural Escapes
Sometimes you just need a patch of grass to spread out a blanket, and Popuch Park has open green spaces ideal for picnicking or simply lounging around. The scattered trees and shrubs not only add to the park's natural beauty but provide welcome shade on sunny Milwaukee days.
These shady spots are great for catching your breath after chasing kids around or simply unwinding with a good book in the fresh air.
Amenities
When hunger strikes, make use of the picnic areas complete with grills - ideal for cooking up some burgers while the kids play nearby. Benches scattered throughout the park offer places to sit and observe the world go by.
One thing to note: the park doesn't have public restrooms, so you might want to plan accordingly, especially if you're bringing little ones for an extended adventure.
