Kiwanis Park
About Kiwanis Park
Park Overview
Kiwanis Park stretches across 125 acres in the heart of Tempe, Arizona. Established back in 1972, this community treasure got its name from the Kiwanis Club, which helped fund its creation.
At the center of it all lies a 12-acre lake that represents both a stunning visual anchor and activity hub. A paved trail wraps around the water, excellent for your morning jog, afternoon stroll, or bike ride with views that make exercise feel less like a chore.

Playgrounds and Water Features
Kids have options here with multiple playgrounds catering to different ages. The north playground rocks the classic vibe with the major perk of abundant shade (a true blessing in Arizona), while the south playground offers modern equipment and rubber flooring that's both safer and more accessible. Both areas are kept clean and well-maintained.
When temperatures climb, "The Cloud" becomes the park's hotspot. This 5,000-square-foot splash pad sits at the north end beneath a distinctive blue canopy. It features loops, hoops, and swizzle sticks that create a refreshing escape from the heat. The Cloud includes a storm sequence complete with thunder effects - an interesting feature during those scorching summer days.

Recreation Center and Sports Facilities
The park houses a 54,000-square-foot recreation center with activities for all ages. Inside you can find an indoor wave pool with a water slide, a fully-equipped fitness center, a gymnasium, multipurpose rooms for community activities, and a 15-court tennis center that tennis enthusiasts will appreciate.
For sports enthusiasts, Kiwanis offers several options. The grounds feature baseball fields, basketball courts, volleyball courts (including sand courts for that beach vibe), and open soccer fields. There are even batting cages where you can practice your swing without chasing balls all afternoon.

Lake Activities and Picnic Areas
The lake isn't just for looking at - it's stocked with catfish for fishing and open for boating adventures. You can rent kayaks, pedal boats, or surrey bikes to get out on the water and see the park from a different perspective.
When it comes to gathering with friends and family, you can find plenty of ramadas equipped with grills and picnic tables scattered within the park. These shaded areas provide an excellent setting for birthday celebrations, family reunions, or just a weekend cookout. Many are available on a first-come basis, so arriving early on busy days is a smart move.
Wildlife and Natural Setting
What makes Kiwanis special is how it creates a natural oasis within the urban landscape. The lake attracts a surprising amount of wildlife, especially birds. You might spot ducks paddling along, geese making themselves at home, or even a heron patiently fishing - all adding to the park's peaceful vibe.
Large shade trees dot the landscape, offering welcome relief from the sun and creating cooler spaces to relax. These green areas give you a chance to disconnect from city life for a while and reconnect with nature, even if you're just minutes from downtown.
With its mix of active recreation and tranquil spaces, Kiwanis Park has something for everyone. Whether you're looking for a place to exercise, entertain the kids, host a gathering, or simply find a quiet spot to read a book, this Tempe park is available year-round.
