Moeur Park
About Moeur Park
A Glimpse into the Past
Tucked away at the intersection of Mill Avenue and Curry Road in Tempe, Arizona, Moeur Park offers a peaceful retreat with roots stretching back to 1979. Named after B.B. Moeur - a local who climbed the ladder to become Arizona's 4th Governor - this park blends history with recreation in a uniquely Arizona way.
History buffs will find structures built during the New Deal Works Projects Administration Era (WPA). These roadway elements, rest areas, and landscaping features display that distinctive US Park Services style from the period - a little architectural time capsule right in Tempe.
Disc Golf Haven
If you're into flinging discs, you're in luck. The park's 20-hole disc golf course has become something of a local favorite. The course offers a bit of everything - wooded sections that require precision and wide-open spaces that let you really test your arm.
The front nine holes weave through trees and are fairly straightforward to navigate, while the back nine (across the street) open up dramatically with some challenging elevation changes that'll keep things interesting even for seasoned players.
Nature's Touch
The landscape here includes desert dry wash areas that occasionally fill with water, adding a dynamic element to the park's natural charm. Yes, it can be hot, dusty, and challenging - but that's Arizona for you!
Scattered throughout are picnic areas and green spaces where you can spread out a blanket, enjoy a sandwich, and take in the desert landscape while still being firmly within city limits.
Trails to Explore
Several hiking trails meander through the property, giving you that immersed-in-nature feeling without having to venture far from urban amenities. The paths welcome four-legged friends too, so feel free to bring your pup along for the adventure.
Whether you're in the mood for a casual stroll, a morning jog, or a leisurely bike ride, the trail system offers enough variety to keep things fresh on repeat visits.
Picture-Perfect Moments
If you're hoping to catch an Arizona sunset, Moeur Park offers lovely sunset views over Tempe. The proximity to Tempe Town Lake adds to the scenic beauty that photographers might appreciate.
The overall vibe here tends to be pretty laid-back, however it does get busier during peak times. Thanks to abundant trees creating natural canopies, you can find welcome shade from the intense Arizona sun and plenty of peaceful corners to escape the hustle of city life.
Before You Visit
A few things to note before heading out: the park doesn't always have reliable drinking water sources, so bringing your own is a smart move. The disc golf course area can be a bit tricky to navigate with limited signage, so first-timers might want to download a course map beforehand.
The park welcomes visitors daily from 6 AM to 10 PM, giving you plenty of daylight (and even some evening) hours to enjoy all it has to offer.
