Combs Park
About Combs Park
River Access and Recreation
Combs Park is being developed as Fayetteville's first dedicated river access park where you can enjoy the water and appreciate the natural surroundings. Located along the West Fork of the White River, this park provides a space where you can take a break from the city and spend time in nature.
The park is part of a broader effort to open up river access to the public and get more people enjoying outdoor activities. One exciting development is the removal of the outdated Pump Station Dam upstream, which will allow the river to flow freely as nature intended.
Ecosystem Restoration
The Watershed Conservation Resource Center is leading the restoration work here, focusing on bringing the river's ecosystem back to health and creating a more natural water environment.
Combs Park will be a key piece in Fayetteville's growing outdoor recreation puzzle. It connects to the city's trail system, making it easy to reach whether you're walking, running, or cycling.
Location and Accessibility
Situated less than four miles from the Historic Downtown Square, the park strikes that perfect balance between being close enough to town but far enough to feel like an escape.
The design thoughtfully incorporates features for various outdoor activities while maintaining the area's natural charm. You'll come across trails being developed, spots to access the river, and quiet areas meant for a picnic or just relaxing with a book.
Historic Preservation
Beyond the natural elements, the project is breathing new life into historic structures within the park. A native-stone pump house and caretaker's cottage are being restored and will become integral parts of this new nature preserve.
The park's transformation is partially funded by a Park Improvement Bond that Fayetteville residents approved in 2019, showing how much the community values its public spaces and outdoor recreation opportunities. Development is happening in phases, and the city continues to welcome public input to shape what Combs Park will ultimately become.
