Tennyson Park is a 10-acre community park located in Hayward, California. The park offers a variety of recreational facilities and amenities for visitors of all ages.
One of the park's notable features is Mia's Dream Come True all-abilities playground, which is open to the public and designed to be inclusive for children of all abilities. This gated playground area provides a safe environment where children can explore various themed play zones and activities. The playground includes a wheelchair-accessible swing, interactive musical instruments, sensory play areas, and themed structures like a fire truck and sailboat.
The park also features a Little Free Library reading corner with seating where families can enjoy books, and areas designed with braille for visually impaired visitors. Throughout the playground, there is cushioned flooring to ensure safety, and multiple seating areas for parents to rest while supervising their children.
Beyond the playground, the park includes sports fields for various athletic activities including baseball and soccer.
Skate Area
For skateboarding enthusiasts, Tennyson Park features a dedicated skate area. The park's skate facility is approximately 10,000 square feet and includes a street course with banks and rails, as well as a double bowl with metal coping.
The bowls are 5 and 6 feet deep, offering challenges for skaters of different skill levels. Adjacent to the skate park is a newly added pump track for bicycles, providing additional recreational opportunities for older children and teens.
Picnic and Fitness Areas
The park provides ample space for relaxation and social gatherings with its open lawn areas and picnic facilities. Multiple picnic tables are available both inside and outside the playground area, offering shaded spots ideal for family gatherings and outdoor meals. Visitors can enjoy barbecues using the available grilling areas.
For fitness-minded individuals, the park includes an NFC Fitness Court, offering opportunities for outdoor exercise and physical activity. The fitness equipment is designed to accommodate various workout routines.
Amenities and Accessibility
Tennyson Park features modern, accessible restrooms equipped with motion-sensor doors and LED occupancy indicators. These high-tech facilities are designed to accommodate visitors with disabilities and include standard amenities like running water, soap, and paper products.
The park is open 24 hours daily, with street parking available along the perimeter. Designated accessible parking spaces are located at the front of the park for visitors with disabilities.
Ongoing Renovations
Tennyson Park is currently undergoing a significant renovation project, which began in June 2024 and is expected to be completed in mid-2025. The renovation includes updates to existing facilities and the addition of new features.
Upcoming improvements include modifications to the skate park, new basketball and Bankshot courts, improved picnic areas, new site furnishings, lighting, pedestrian walkways, a new parking lot, and new bioretention basins. While some areas may be temporarily closed during construction, many of the park's popular features remain accessible to visitors.
