Bauer Park
About Bauer Park
Recreational Features
Located on Newland Street in Huntington Beach, California, Bauer Park is a mid-size neighborhood spot that balances recreational facilities with open space. Though surrounded by gated communities, this compact park remains open to everyone and is frequently used by local families.
The basketball court gets plenty of action on weekends, while the spacious grassy field transforms to accommodate whatever sport or activity your heart desires - from impromptu soccer matches to birthday picnics.
Playground Areas
The playground is split into two age-appropriate sections: a smaller area for the 2-5 year old crowd, and a more challenging zone for kids 5-12 years.
Little ones have their own playground featuring three slides, fish tunnels, a climbing arch, and swings. Meanwhile, the older kids' section steps things up with monkey bars for building those arm muscles, some interestingly unconventional ladders, three slides of their own, and that can't-miss orange climbing wall that seems to be the playground's unofficial centerpiece.
The polygon spiderweb structure is another standout feature - it's that perfect challenge that kids return to again and again to test their climbing skills. The playground accommodates various ages, with different activities for different skill levels.
Park Design and Amenities
Bauer's layout offers good visibility - you can easily keep an eye on kids exploring different areas from most seating spots. The recycled rubber surface covers the playground areas.
The palm trees dotted around give that quintessential SoCal vibe, while the expansive grassy area represents a multi-purpose space for everything from frisbee games to dog playdates.
When you need a break from the sun, the shaded gazebo area offers sanctuary with about four picnic tables that each seat 4-8 people comfortably. It's perfectly positioned to let you rest while still keeping the playground in view.
Just a heads-up: there are no restrooms on-site, so plan accordingly. Parking is limited to street spots along Lomond, and you'll want to note the street sweeping schedule to avoid any unexpected tickets.
Community Use
Dog lovers have definitely claimed this park as their own, with four-legged friends often outnumbering humans on early mornings. You'll also spot plenty of kids zipping around on bikes and scooters, taking advantage of the smooth pathways.
The well-maintained grounds and clean facilities make Bauer popular with both nearby neighbors and families looking for an alternative to the busy beaches.
