About the Location

Historic Railway Transformation

The Long Beach Greenbelt was developed on the former Pacific Electric Railway route, transforming an abandoned rail corridor into a vibrant green space for the community. This 9.28-acre linear park runs diagonally through Long Beach, California, creating a natural pathway through the urban landscape.

Development occurred in phases, with some sections completed as early as winter 2003-2004. The project included the creation of Rotary Park within the Greenbelt area.

Trails and Landscape

The Greenbelt features walking and riding trails that wind through the park, offering residents and visitors a peaceful path for exercise and recreation. These accessible pathways make the park an ideal destination for daily fitness routines or casual strolls.

The area is thoughtfully landscaped with native plants, contributing to the local ecosystem and providing a natural backdrop for outdoor activities. This native vegetation helps support local wildlife and creates a more sustainable urban green space.

Community Connection

The park serves as a green corridor through urban Long Beach, connecting different neighborhoods and providing a natural respite from the surrounding city environment. It offers residents an opportunity to enjoy nature, exercise, and community gatherings in a linear park setting.

While portions of the former railway land have been developed for housing and other uses, the Greenbelt preserves a significant stretch as public open space for everyone to enjoy.
