About the Location

Urban Oasis in Downtown

Gloria Molina Grand Park is a 12-acre urban oasis located in the civic center of Los Angeles, California. Stretching from The Music Center to City Hall, this park provides a central gathering place for Angelenos and visitors alike.

Designed by the Los Angeles-based multidisciplinary design firm Rios Clementi Hale Studios, the park opened in July 2012 as part of the larger Grand Avenue Project redevelopment. The space, which was formerly known as the Civic Center Mall, has been transformed into a vibrant community hub that celebrates the cultural diversity of Los Angeles through its landscape design and architecture.

Park Features

Grand Park features a variety of spaces designed to accommodate different activities and events. These include Fountain Plaza, Performance Lawn, Community Terrace, and Event Lawn.

The park's layout incorporates a 92-foot change in elevation between Grand Avenue and City Hall, which has been cleverly utilized to create a series of terraces connected by elegant staircases and ramps.

One of the park's most notable features is the restored historic Arthur J. Will Memorial Fountain, which has been enhanced with a new interactive water feature. The shallow splash pool and 79 programmable jets, along with colorful kaleidoscopic LED lighting, create an inviting play area for visitors of all ages.

Unique Landscaping

The park's landscaping is particularly noteworthy, featuring drought-tolerant plants representing species from each of the world's six floristic kingdoms. This diverse plant selection not only showcases the adaptability of various flora to Los Angeles' climate but also symbolizes the city's multicultural population.
