Civic Center Community Conservation Park
About Civic Center Community Conservation Park
A Little Green Haven in the Heart of Ontario
Tucked right next to City Hall on B Street, the Civic Center Community Conservation Park is a small but mighty 0.5-acre green retreat in Ontario's urban landscape. Since its creation in 2015, this pocket park combines conservation, education, and demonstration - all within a compact, verdant space.
Funded by a State Park Grant, this intimate space was designed with interactive features and water conservation in mind. Though small, it has plenty of character - offering a cozy spot where you can catch your breath and have a quiet conversation away from the city buzz.
Eco-Friendly Features That Teach and Inspire
This little park contains several sustainable elements that are both functional and educational. The bioretention swale isn't just a pretty landscape feature; it actively manages stormwater runoff and helps improve water quality.
There's also a solar panel house and sun clock that show renewable energy in action and help you track the day's passage in a most natural way. The charming farm pump water feature adds a rustic touch while demonstrating old-school water collection. Just note that sometimes the water features and drinking fountains might be taking a break when you visit.
Play Areas That Spark Curiosity
Kids get their own glimpse of eco-education here too. The playground sports a rubberized surface for safer adventures, while the fossil dig area lets young paleontologists unearth treasures from the past. Perhaps most delightful is the kid-powered windmill - a hands-on way for children to connect with renewable energy concepts while they play and burn off energy of their own.
Spaces to Gather and Unwind
Community is at the heart of this park, with an amphitheater that's excellent for small performances or talks, and picnic benches where you can enjoy lunch or catch up with friends.
Whether you're snapping photos, taking a leisurely stroll, or just sitting quietly with nature, this park offers a surprising amount of tranquility for its city setting. It shows how even small urban spaces can provide places to play and learn while connecting with the environment.
