Tiscornia Park
About Tiscornia Park
Where Rivers Meet
Situated in Sacramento, California, Tiscornia Park spans 13.28 acres at the magical spot where the Sacramento and American Rivers converge. This riverside area provides a peaceful escape from city life while still being right in Sacramento.
Beach Vibes
One of the park's biggest draws is its sandy beach area stretching along the riverbank. On warm days, you can dip your toes (or your whole self) into the water, cast a fishing line from shore, or simply lounge on the sand while soaking in those river views.
The beach is a hit with families thanks to its shallow swimming areas that work well for kids. Weekdays tend to be pretty chill, but expect more company on weekends and during summer months when everyone's looking to cool off.
Safety note: Be mindful of strong currents and hidden underwater obstacles in some areas. It's best to stay within the swimming zones marked by buoys, and watch out for rocks lurking in shallow waters.
Urban Wildlife Surprises
Despite being in the city, the park offers some unexpected wildlife encounters. Many visitors are delighted to spot sea lions playing in the river, alongside various birds and ducks that call this area home. There's something special about standing in the middle of Sacramento while watching wildlife in their natural habitat just feet away.
Connected to Adventure
Tiscornia Park plugs right into the larger American River Parkway trail network, making it a favorite jumping-off point for walkers, joggers, and cyclists. The paved paths are meant for anything from a casual stroll to a serious workout, all with nature as your backdrop.
The park also is an entrance to the Two Rivers Bike Trail, connecting you to other Sacramento landmarks like the Museum of Science and Curiosity and Old Town Sacramento. The smooth, level pathways welcome people of all ages and abilities.
Gather and Play
With its laid-back, family-friendly atmosphere, Tiscornia Park has become a go-to spot for picnics and get-togethers. The open grassy areas give you plenty of room to spread out a blanket, toss a frisbee, or just relax in the sunshine.
Fishing enthusiasts come specifically to try their luck with striped bass, while others bring portable grills for riverside barbecues and day-long family outings.
Good to Know
There's a parking lot available, but be prepared to pay around $7 for the privilege. Bathroom facilities are basic - just portable toilets rather than permanent structures. If you're bringing your four-legged friend, you'll discover dog waste bags available, and there's plenty of open space for them to stretch their legs.
Note that the park can get pretty busy during summer weekends and holidays when the weather's nice. If you can visit during off-peak times, you might enjoy a more tranquil experience. And if possible, try to stick around for sunset - the views as the sun dips below the horizon are truly something special.
