About the Location
Park Overview
Located in Thousand Oaks, California, Northwood Park spans a generous 8.5 acres on a scenic hillside. The park began its transformation in 2009, turning what locals once called a "dirt ranch" into a community space. What makes this park special? For starters, those stunning views - catch a breathtaking sunset, admire the Mount Clif Ridge profile, or gaze out at the distant hills rolling into the horizon.
Trails and Fitness
Feel like getting your steps in? The park features a 0.4-mile rubber-surfaced jogging trail that's easier on your joints than paved surfaces. Along the way, you'll find three fitness stations where you can mix in some strength training. It functions as an outdoor gym with a view.
Amenities
Whether you're planning a family gathering or just need some quiet time with nature, Northwood offers several options. Scattered throughout you can find benches for those moments when you just want to sit and breathe, plus picnic areas complete with BBQ grills for more festive occasions. There are plenty of grassy areas to spread out a blanket and tables for more formal dining. Suitable for everything from a quick lunch to a family meal.
Recreation Areas
In 2017, the park added more recreational facilities. Now you can shoot hoops at the basketball court or bump, set, and spike at the volleyball court. These additions have transformed Northwood into a versatile destination where you can be as active (or relaxed) as you want to be.
Playground
Got kids? They'll love the thoughtfully designed playground with age-appropriate equipment for different stages of childhood. The playground area has become a neighborhood favorite, where little ones can climb, slide, and play while parents can catch up with neighbors.
Facilities
You'll come across permanent restroom facilities at Northwood Park - a crucial amenity for longer visits. Note that the restrooms are generally clean but occasionally might be locked, so it's worth having a backup plan if you're bringing little ones with unpredictable bladders.
Dog-Friendly Environment
Four-legged friends are welcome at Northwood, making it a popular meeting spot for dog owners in the community. If you're visiting with small children or have concerns about dogs, just be aware that you'll often find pups and their humans hanging out near the entrance areas.
