About the Location
Park Overview
Found in Thousand Oaks, California, Waverly Park spans a cozy 8.8 acres of pine-dotted landscape. Established back in 1973 and developed the following year, this natural haven sits right next to the Conejo Valley Adult School. The park is open daily from 7AM to 10PM.
Recreation Spots
The park's baseball field is well-used, however technically it sits on Conejo Valley Unified School District property. It's well-kept and buzzes with energy during little league baseball games - nothing beats watching kids chase their sports dreams on a sunny afternoon.
If you wander to the southeast corner, you'll discover a lovely orchard that extends from the Las Flores Community Garden. Come springtime, this garden fills with colorful blooms.
For the Fur Babies
Waverly Park features a dog park where dogs can run around off-leash. Water bowls and a hose are available to keep dogs hydrated.
There's also some dune-like terrain near the equestrian area where dogs can dig and run.
Fresh Upgrades
2016 was a big year for Waverly Park, bringing some serious improvements to the grounds. The play area got a new home and a facelift, fitness stations popped up for workout enthusiasts, and the walking path expanded for those looking to stretch their legs.
Now you can enjoy a complete 0.60-mile walking trail - meant for a brisk morning walk or a leisurely evening stroll surrounded by nature.
Creature Comforts
Waverly doesn't skimp on the essentials. Throughout the grounds, you'll come across tables, benches, and BBQ grills that make it ideal for everything from casual picnics to family gatherings.
Restrooms are available, however keep in mind they're a bit of a hike from the baseball field. Water fountains and designated picnic areas round out the amenities that make this park a practical choice for spending a few hours outdoors.
The children's playground ensures the little ones have their own space to burn energy while everyone else relaxes.
The Vibe
Yes, you might catch some traffic sounds from the nearby freeway, but they fade into the background once you're immersed in the beautiful views and tranquil setting. The pine trees cast plenty of shade, creating cool spots to escape the California sun.
You'll occasionally spot local police making their rounds, which helps maintain the park's family-friendly atmosphere throughout its generous operating hours.
Good to Know
Just a heads-up: alcohol isn't allowed in the park unless you have a permit. This rule helps keep the environment family-appropriate for everyone enjoying the space.
