About the Location

A Piece of Conejo Valley History

Tucked into the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains in southern Newbury Park, Banyan Park spans a comfortable 7.4 acres. What makes this community green space special? It holds the honor of being the first property acquisition made by the Conejo Recreation & Park District back in 1964, shortly after the district formed. They developed it into a proper park in 1967, giving it some serious seniority among local recreational spots.

What You'll Find Today

The park offers gently rolling lawns meant for casual games or just lounging in the California sunshine. In 2017, the northern section got a nice facelift with new features that made the whole place more accessible and enjoyable. These improvements complement the original amenities nicely, and there's plenty of parking available no matter when you decide to visit.

Kid-Friendly Fun

If you've got little ones in tow, you're in luck. The park features two adjacent playgrounds designed with different age groups in mind. Parents will appreciate that the play areas are enclosed, creating a safer environment where younger children can explore and play. The equipment is kept in good condition, making this a go-to destination whether you have toddlers, school-aged kids, or both.

Perfect for Outdoor Gatherings

Looking for a picnic spot? There's a well-equipped picnic area that offers lovely views of the surrounding landscape. These spaces work beautifully for family get-togethers, small group meetups, or simply enjoying a sandwich in the great outdoors. And yes, there are clean restrooms on site - always a plus for longer visits.

Connected to Community

The park seamlessly connects to Banyan Elementary School through walkways, making it a natural extension of the neighborhood. Its versatile design accommodates various recreational needs, from casual frisbee games to more organized activities. You'll often find local groups, including church organizations, gathering here for community events.

Bringing Your Four-Legged Friends

Dog owners, take note - your furry companions are welcome here. The open spaces are ideal for walking your pets, however you'll need to keep them on a leash throughout your visit. With a mix of paved paths and grassy areas, both you and your dog can enjoy a pleasant stroll through this neighborhood retreat.
