Park History
Peppertree Playfield is a 21.7-acre community park located in western Newbury Park, California, at the corner of Reino and Old Conejo Roads. The park was acquired by the Conejo Recreation & Park District (CRPD) in 1977 but was not developed or opened until 1983.
The park is named for the numerous pepper trees that surround the area, providing a distinctive aesthetic and natural ambiance.
Recreational Features
One of its notable features is a 0.83-mile fitness trail loop, which offers visitors an opportunity for exercise and outdoor recreation.
Peppertree Playfield serves as a hub for various recreational activities. It is home to multiple sports facilities, including soccer fields and softball fields, which were developed in 1983.
The park is particularly popular during the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) season, drawing hundreds of players and spectators for games on weekends during half of the year starting in September.
Recent Improvements
In 2021, the park underwent significant improvements, particularly to its play area. The upgrade included replacing existing play structures with a nature-themed playground, featuring new slides, paw-print finds, and an assortment of climbers.
These enhancements have made the park more appealing and engaging for children of various ages.
Nearby Trails
The park's location provides convenient access to nearby hiking trails. It is within walking distance of the Conejo Vista Trailhead in Old Conejo Open Space to the north and directly across from the Knoll Trailhead (Pepper Tree Vista Trail) in Knoll Open Space to the east.
This proximity to additional outdoor spaces enhances the park's appeal for nature enthusiasts and hikers.
