About the Location
Park History
Found in the corner of Erbes and Pederson Roads in Thousand Oaks, California, you'll discover Oakbrook Neighborhood Park - a 14-acre green escape that's been serving the community since 1970. The park started small, with just 5 acres of developed space in 1975, but like most good things, it grew with time.
Development and Expansion
Fast forward to 2002, and Oakbrook began to stretch its legs into previously undeveloped territory. A decade later in 2012, the park got a serious upgrade with a decent-sized parking area (because nobody enjoys parking nightmares), a modest restroom facility, and several new recreational spots. The final nine acres were polished off in May 2013, completing the park as we know it today.
Unique Features
What makes Oakbrook different from other parks? For starters, it houses a multi-use hard court that includes not just your standard basketball court, but also the first and only netball court in all of Thousand Oaks. This unique addition came with the 2002 expansion and gives locals a refreshing alternative to the usual sports options.
Wrapping around the park is a walking trail that's great for morning jogs or peaceful evening strolls. It's just the right setting for getting those steps in while enjoying some fresh air and greenery.
Recreational Facilities
The park doesn't skimp on open space, offering generous grassy fields where you can toss a frisbee, kick a soccer ball, or simply sprawl out with a good book. There's room to breathe here.
Planning a gathering? The gazebo area can be reserved for your next birthday party or family reunion, providing shelter from both surprise showers and intense sunshine.
For the more actively inclined, volleyball courts, basketball courts, and horseshoe pits offer plenty of options to get your game on.
Family Amenities
Parents, take note: in January 2019, the playground got a facelift with new play structures specifically designed for the little ones aged 2-5. This update is particularly helpful for families with young children.
When hunger strikes, head to the picnic area where you can find tables complete with barbecue grills and conveniently placed trash bins. It's a nice spot to enjoy a meal outdoors.
Community Atmosphere
Oakbrook serves the community in various ways. With spaces for both active recreation and quiet relaxation, it caters to residents of all ages and interests. The park tends to be clean and rarely gets overcrowded, usually leaving plenty of space for visitors.
And yes, your four-legged friends are welcome too! The park is dog-friendly, with plenty of grassy spots where Fido can stretch his legs. Don't forget to use the provided waste disposal bags to keep things pleasant for everyone.
