About the Location
Park Overview
Stretching along Moorpark Road in Thousand Oaks, California, you'll find a pleasant community park spanning 35.8 acres. Thousand Oaks Community Park has been bringing locals together since its acquisition in 1970, with major developments adding all sorts of fun facilities back in 1974 across 22 acres of the space.
Sitting right next to Thousand Oaks High School, this park offers activities for people of all ages and interests. And don't worry about parking - there's plenty of it, with two main lots, accessible spaces for those who need them, and even extra spots in the back if things get busy.
Community Center
At the heart of the park stands the Thousand Oaks Community Center, which hosts various activities throughout the year. If you're a toddler just finding your feet or a senior looking to stay active, there's always something happening here. The indoor basketball courts are particularly popular when the weather isn't cooperating.
Planning a birthday party? The friendly office staff can help you reserve one of the party areas next to the playground - an ideal spot for creating those core childhood memories without the hassle of hosting at home.
Playground Features
If you've got kids in tow, you absolutely can't miss the "Ant Hill" - a quirky little man-made mound covered in artificial turf that's become a local favorite. Pro tip: bring along some cardboard boxes for impromptu sledding - this simple addition can keep the little ones entertained for hours!
The playground itself got a complete makeover in 2022, featuring adorable picnic and insect-themed equipment. It's thoughtfully divided into two areas: one for the 3-6 year olds and another for kids 6 and up, so everyone has age-appropriate options.
The renovation also brought much-needed ADA improvements, making the playground more accessible for everyone. With its colorful equipment, plenty of swings, and (perhaps most importantly for SoCal parents) shaded areas, the playground is popular with families on sunny afternoons.
Disc Golf
On the east side of the park, disc golf enthusiasts will find their happy place at the Rabbit Flats Disc Golf Course. Spread across nine acres, this free-to-play course has developed quite the welcoming community. If you're just figuring out your throw or you've been playing for years, you'll fit right in on these fairways.
Sports Facilities
The park offers a wide range of sports facilities for various activities. There are well-maintained tennis courts, basketball courts with evening lighting (perfect for those after-work games), soccer fields, baseball/softball fields, and a sand volleyball court for channeling your inner beach athlete.
You'll also find fitness equipment stations scattered around the grounds - a great way to mix up your workout routine without a gym membership. And if running's your thing, the track that circles the park provides a dedicated space away from street traffic.
Additional Amenities
When hunger strikes, head to one of the several picnic areas with tables and BBQ grills. Some spots offer welcome shade - a blessing during those warm California afternoons. Larger gatherings can take advantage of the gazebo area with multiple tables.
Clean restrooms can be found both inside the community center and outdoors near the sports fields. And you won't need to pack a ton of water bottles, as drinking fountains are conveniently located across the park.
Adding to the natural beauty is a creek that meanders through the grounds, providing a touch of serenity amid all the activity. And yes, your four-legged friends are welcome too, however they'll need to stay leashed during your visit.
Thousand Oaks Community Park combines recreational facilities, natural elements, and community spaces in a well-maintained environment that both locals and visitors can enjoy.
