About the Location

Park Overview

Set in Colorado Springs, Cheyenne Meadows Park spreads across 20.5 acres of neighborhood greenspace that feels like an extension of your backyard. This community park offers a variety of spaces - from active sports areas to quiet spots where you can sit back and enjoy Colorado mountain views.

The park balances developed recreational spaces with natural areas, suitable whether you want to exercise or just relax for a while. And with Colorado Springs' typically pleasant climate, it's a year-round destination for locals and visitors alike.

Recreational Facilities

If team sports are your thing, you'll come across plenty of options here. The park houses baseball and softball fields where local leagues often face off, plus multi-use courts that accommodate pickup basketball games and other activities. Soccer enthusiasts and football players aren't left out either, with dedicated fields for both sports that see plenty of action throughout the seasons.

Looking for something more low-key? The park's picnic areas with shelters make perfect spots for family gatherings or casual outdoor meals. There's also a gazebo with picnic tables where you can eat while enjoying mountain views.

Playground

The kids' area has updated playground equipment that children seem to enjoy. Little ones particularly enjoy tackling the small climbing wall and exploring the various interactive elements scattered throughout. Fair warning though - the playground doesn't offer much shade during peak sunshine hours, so sunscreen is definitely your friend here. Thankfully, nearby trees provide some relief for parents and guardians keeping watch.

Trails and Accessibility

The park's trails and sidewalk paths provide routes for walking, jogging, or wandering. The circular paved walkway is especially popular with families - it's ideal for keeping an eye on kids as they zoom around on scooters or bikes. Most paths are gravel-based, making for easy walking, however they can get a bit muddy after rainfall.

There are interactive signs along the walking paths that can spark conversations between adults and children. You'll also find plenty of benches along the way when you need a breather - thoughtful additions that make the park accessible for visitors of all ages and abilities.

Dog Park

One of the standout features here is the fenced dog park area located at the Charmwood Road and Canoe Creek Drive intersection. This dedicated space is where local pups can safely run free, making friends while their humans connect over tales of canine adventures.

Beyond this designated area, the entire park welcomes four-legged friends (on leash, of course), with plenty of green space for them to explore. Most visitors seem to be responsible pet owners, with minimal issues of abandoned waste or unruly dogs.

Additional Features

Fancy a bit of nostalgic outdoor gaming? Try your hand at the park's horseshoe pit. If you're serious about playing, you might want to bring along a rake or small shovel to prep the pit before your match.

Note that there aren't permanent restrooms on-site, so plan accordingly. While there is a water fountain available, bringing your own water is usually the safer bet. What you will find is a well-maintained space with regularly mowed lawns and clean facilities - the kind of community park that brings neighborhoods together.
