About the Location
A Place of Remembrance
Situated in Colorado Springs sits Jared Jensen Park, a 3.5-acre neighborhood green space with a poignant history. Named after Officer Jared Jensen of the Colorado Springs Police Department, the park stands as a living memorial to his service and sacrifice after he was tragically killed in the line of duty on February 22, 2006.
Play Your Way
Despite its modest size, this park packs in plenty of recreational options. No matter if you're looking to break a sweat or just enjoy some fresh air, there's something here for almost everyone.
Skateboarders will appreciate the dedicated skateboard area where you can practice kickflips and ollies to your heart's content. Right nearby, an inline skate court gives roller enthusiasts their own space to glide and maneuver.
Ball handling more your style? The basketball court offers a great spot for shooting hoops or jumping into a pickup game with neighbors.
When you need room to spread out, the large open field provides ample space for everything from frisbee tosses to informal soccer matches or just sprawling out on a blanket with a good book.
Kid-Approved Fun
The little ones won't be disappointed here. The playground area has become something of a hotspot for neighborhood families, including many kids from nearby Ridgeview Elementary School. With equipment designed for various age groups, children from toddlers to pre-teens can find something engaging.
Many kids make a beeline for the rock climbing wall - it's usually the first thing they want to conquer! The multiple play structures offer different climbing challenges and obstacles that keep children entertained for hours.
The picnic pavilion provides welcome shade and a gathering place for family meals or community events. The local HOA even uses the space for their annual Easter egg hunts - a neighborhood tradition for the community.
Get Your Steps In
If you're looking to log some light exercise, the park's 0.3-mile sidewalk loop circles the perimeter. It's perfectly paved and ideal for a quick morning jog, an evening stroll, or teaching the kids to ride bikes in a safe environment.
Good to Know
The park is typically well-maintained and tidy, but you should know there are no restroom facilities on site. You'll also find limited natural shade as the trees are still maturing, so remember your sunscreen and maybe a hat during those sunny Colorado days.
Jared Jensen Park offers both active and quiet spaces in this corner of Colorado Springs - a fitting tribute to the officer whose name it bears.
