A grassy terrace stage that seats up to 2,500 people sits at the water's edge of Mortensen Riverfront Plaza, making it one of Hartford's more ambitious urban gathering spots. The plaza stretches over Interstate 91, reconnecting downtown Hartford with the Connecticut River that had long been separated from the city, and serves as the centerpiece of Hartford's Riverfront Recapture park system.

At the water's edge, you can catch performances during the Summer Music Festival, enjoy music at the Hartbeat Music Festival, or experience the Riverfront Dragon Boat & Asian Festival.

From Forgotten to Flourishing

The plaza has an interesting transformation story. What was once an overgrown, forgotten area - walled off by flood dikes and isolated by Interstate 91 - is now a public space where Hartford residents can connect with the river.
