About the Location
Park History
Set in south Jacksonville's Mandarin area, Alberts Field spreads across 11.1 acres of green space at the corner of Brady and Orange Picker Roads.
The story of this park begins with Bruno and Ann Alberts, who left Kentucky behind for Mandarin in 1935. Thanks to their generous land donation, the park opened around 1959, later growing through additional donations and city acquisitions.
Bruno Alberts (1888-1970) wasn't just a land donor - he was a talented stain glass artist, portrait painter, and orchid enthusiast. His wife Ann Alberts (1896-1991) shared his creative spirit, focusing her artistic talents on orchid and still life paintings.
Recreation Opportunities
For decades, the Mandarin Sports Association has called Alberts Field home, working alongside the city to maintain and enhance the park.
At the heart of the park are six baseball fields that host organized baseball and softball games during the year. Back in 2004, about 900 kids were running the bases here - today, these well-kept fields continue to be the backdrop for countless family baseball memories.
Beyond baseball, you'll find people walking, running, and hiking along the trails that wind through the property. Thanks to Florida's gentle climate, you can enjoy outdoor activities here practically year-round - a major plus for both fitness buffs and those who simply enjoy a leisurely stroll in nature.
Park Amenities
Alberts Field offers more than just baseball. You can practice your serve at the tennis courts or watch your little ones explore the playground. During game days, the concession stand opens up, providing snacks and drinks.
The thoughtful design includes good lighting throughout, making evening visits both safe and pleasant. We appreciate how the park sits back from major roads, creating a more peaceful atmosphere where you can temporarily forget about city life.
Recent Improvements
The park hasn't been standing still - recent updates have made Alberts Field even better. Changes to the layout have improved traffic flow, while the parking lot sports fresh pavement and additional spaces.
These enhancements reflect ongoing investment in the park's facilities and infrastructure.
Visitor Information
When you visit, you can find parking options along Orange Picker and Brady Roads, behind the MSA Field House, in front of Baker Field, and next to the Tennis Courts.
Restrooms are available in the same building as the concession stand, although keep in mind they might be quite a walk from some fields, especially those where the younger players compete.
Make sure to observe parking rules during your visit - avoid blocking driveways or parking in residential areas nearby. A little consideration goes a long way in keeping relations friendly with the park's neighbors.
