About the Location

A Historic Urban Retreat

Willowbranch Rose Garden Park is a small urban park located in the Riverside area of Jacksonville, Florida. The park sits between Mallory Street and Azalea Terrace, across from Willowbranch Park. It covers an area of approximately 0.7 acres.

Rich Heritage

The park has an interesting history dating back to 1916 when it was initially part of the larger Willowbranch Park. In 1955, members of the Jacksonville Rose Society established the Variety Rose Garden on this site.

For many years, the Society and other volunteers, with assistance from the City, maintained the roses in the garden. Over time, the garden fell into disrepair.

Community Restoration

In 1998, two teenage brothers, Adam and Joseph Bierce, took on the task of restoring the remaining garden. In 2002, at the request of Riverside Avondale Preservation, the park's name was officially changed to Willowbranch Rose Garden Park.

Present Day

Today, the park serves as a small green space in the Riverside neighborhood. While it may no longer be filled with roses as it once was, it continues to provide a peaceful spot for local residents to enjoy nature in an urban setting.
