About the Location

A Glimpse of Port St. Lucie History

Tucked away on 16 acres of land, Sportsman's Park stands as Port St. Lucie's oldest park, having opened its gates back in 1975. Over the decades, it's undergone various upgrades that have shaped it into what you see today.

As the proud home of the National Little League, this historic green space continues to be where memories are made - whether it's kids rounding bases for the first time or families gathering for weekend picnics.

Play Paradise for the Little Ones

In April 2021, the park added a new playground with modern features. Funded through a partnership with the Florida Recreation Development and Assistance Program, this isn't your average slide-and-swing setup.

The playground thoughtfully separates areas by age group, featuring everything from challenging climbing structures to spinning activities that'll have kids giggling for hours. One of the coolest additions has to be the You and Me swing, where you can face your child while swinging together - it's those little moments that make park days special.

Parents, you'll appreciate that the entire playground area is fenced in, so you can relax a bit while the kids explore freely.

For the Sports Enthusiasts

For sports activities, the park offers lighted tennis courts, four baseball/softball fields, and two basketball courts (just remember you'll need a free court pass for basketball).

Not into team sports? No problem. The walking paths that wind through the park's green spaces are meant for a morning jog or an evening stroll - a simple way to clear your mind while getting some steps in.

Fitness for Everyone

The park features outdoor fitness stations that might interest you, even if you don't usually work out. Designed by the KOMPAN Play Institute, these modern exercise spots come with a neat tech touch - QR codes you can scan for workout instructions right on your phone.

You can find a mix of cardio equipment and space for bodyweight exercises. The cardio bikes, elliptical cross trainer, and arm bike even connect via Bluetooth to the Kompan fitness app, tracking calories burned, speed, distance, and time if you're into that kind of data.

One of the best parts? You can squeeze in a workout while keeping an eye on the kids playing nearby - multitasking at its finest.

Places to Unwind

Not every park visit needs to be action-packed. Sportsman's Park offers plenty of spots to simply relax and enjoy the Florida weather. Picnic areas complete with tables and grills are scattered throughout, making it easy to turn a simple outing into a proper meal al fresco.

Many of these picnic tables sit under covered pavilions near the playground, providing much-needed shade during those sunny afternoons. These pavilions also serve as perfect venues for birthday parties, family reunions, or any gathering that could use some fresh air and open space.

The Heart of the Community

Beyond the facilities, what really makes this park special is the sense of community that fills the air. During baseball season, the concession stand comes alive, serving up snacks that hit the spot after cheering from the bleachers.

City staff maintain the grounds and facilities regularly. The park's lighting allows for evening activities until closing time.

Everyone's Welcome

Sportsman's Park is designed to be accessible to many visitors. The ADA-compliant restrooms and multiple parking areas ensure accessibility isn't an afterthought but a priority.

From toddlers taking their first steps on the playground to seniors enjoying a peaceful afternoon on a bench, the park accommodates visitors across all ages and abilities.

Open daily from 8AM to 10PM, there's plenty of time to fit a visit into your schedule, whether you're an early bird or prefer the cooler evening hours.
