About the Location
Play Areas & Recreation
Located in the Hyde Park neighborhood, Anderson Park is a pleasant community space that many Tampa locals enjoy. The playground offers a nice variety of equipment for kids of all ages, and we've noticed it's always impressively clean and well-kept.
The splash pad is definitely the star attraction here, offering sweet relief during those scorching Florida days. Sometimes you'll hear locals call it the Lions Fountain - it pulls double duty as both a decorative feature at the entrance and a place where kids can splash around. If you're looking for some physical activity, the basketball courts are excellent for shooting hoops or playing a pickup game.
Thoughtful Playground Layout
We love how the playground is thoughtfully divided into different sections for younger and older children. It's a small detail that makes a big difference in creating safe, age-appropriate play experiences.
The play area features all the classics: climbing equipment, slides, and swings. The climbing structures and slides benefit from natural shade thanks to the surrounding trees (a huge plus in Florida!). The baby swings have a tarp covering them for additional protection, while the regular swings for older kids are in a sunnier spot - so don't forget the sunscreen!
The Setting
Beyond the play equipment, Anderson Park provides a lovely green space for the Hyde Park community. Its location in this historic neighborhood makes it easily accessible and adds to the area's family-friendly vibe.
One thing that makes this park stand out is the abundant shade from mature trees, keeping temperatures noticeably cooler than surrounding areas - a true blessing during summer months. Another unique touch we appreciate? The two smaller tables specifically designated for children's activities - something you don't often see at other playgrounds.
Practical Information
Parents will appreciate that the park is fully fenced, creating a secure environment where kids can play freely. Water fountains are available when you need to hydrate.
Getting here is straightforward with free street parking around the park. If that's full, there's also free parking at the Hyde Park Parking garage about two blocks away. The central location makes it easy to combine your park visit with stops at nearby shops or cafes - well-suited for grabbing a cold drink or snack after playtime.
