Knight Park
About Knight Park
A Glimpse into the Past
Located in northwest Atlanta's Howell Station neighborhood sits Knight Park, a charming green space with roots stretching back to around 1940. This little glimpse of tranquility came to be when local resident William T. Knight donated the land to his community - a contribution that remains valued decades later.
What You'll Find
Spread across several acres, Knight Park is the neighborhood's living room - a place where the community comes together against a backdrop of gently rolling hills and magnificent mature trees that cast cooling shadows on hot Georgia days.
At the center stands a community center building dating back to about 1945. While once the hub of neighborhood gatherings, it's now mostly used for storage - a quiet reminder of the park's long history.
Families appreciate the fenced playground where kids can safely burn off energy, while the basketball courts attract players of all ages looking for a friendly game. The picnic areas make perfect spots for lunch breaks or weekend gatherings with friends.
Note that there are no public restrooms available, so plan accordingly before your visit.
Part of Something Bigger
Knight Park is part of the Howell Station Historic District, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1997. The park adds to the neighborhood's character as a green space within the urban landscape.
We love how the tree canopy here creates a natural buffer between the residential streets and the industrial areas nearby - it's like nature's own privacy screen.
Heart of the Community
In this historically blue-collar neighborhood, Knight Park remains what it's always been - a place where locals come to unwind, play, and connect. It reflects the community's interest in preserving green spaces and maintaining their neighborhood character.
Parking is readily available if you're driving over. The park has seen some improvements recently, but it could benefit from better sidewalk connections to the surrounding streets for those arriving on foot.
