About the Location

Urban Oasis in Downtown

Cherie Buckner-Webb Park is a newly developed urban park located in downtown Boise, Idaho. Situated at the corner of 11th Street and Bannock Street, this half-acre park replaced a private surface parking lot, transforming it into a vibrant community space open to everyone.

The park, which opened in 2021, serves as a central hub for the community to gather, dine, and relax, enhancing the urban lifestyle of downtown employees, residents, shoppers, and visitors.

Historical Significance

The park was named in honor of Cherie Buckner-Webb, a trailblazing Idahoan who was the first Black woman elected to the Idaho Legislature. Her legacy is commemorated through this public space that welcomes all members of the community.

Art and Attractions

A notable feature of the park is the public art installation called "Gentle Breeze" by artist Matthew Mazzotta. This interactive urban sculpture, often referred to as the "Pink Tree," features swings that have become a popular attraction within the park.

Accessibility and Purpose

Cherie Buckner-Webb Park is designed to provide a connection with the outdoors on a daily basis and serve as a venue for community events. It is situated along a bicycle corridor to and from downtown, making it easily accessible to pedestrians and cyclists alike.

Development Background

The park's development was a result of a public-private partnership between the City of Boise, the Capital City Development Corporation (CCDC), and Eleven Eleven West Jefferson, LLC. It addresses the need for public spaces in the evolving Westside Downtown Boise neighborhood, as voiced by the public during workshops in 2016.
