Elm Grove Park
About Elm Grove Park
A Slice of History
Nestled across 3 acres in Boise, this charming park dates back to 1911 when it was developed as part of the Elm Grove Addition. The city purchased it in 1920, preserving this green space that sits just a block away from the old Governor's mansion on W. Irene St.
What Makes It Special
Cutting diagonally through the park is an irrigation flume that adds a unique touch to the landscape. You can easily spot it rising across the grounds, and it now doubles as a paved bike and walking path on top - well-suited for a leisurely stroll.
One of the most delightful aspects of Elm Grove are the magnificent, mature shade trees that create cool, dappled spots across the grounds. These grand old trees make for ideal picnic spots and offer welcome relief during those scorching Idaho summer days.
Get Moving
Though not massive, the park doesn't skimp on recreational options. The open play areas give you plenty of space to toss a frisbee, kick a ball around, or simply spread out a blanket for a family gathering.
If you're feeling more competitive, head to the tennis courts or try your hand at the half-court basketball court. These well-kept facilities are popular with locals looking to stay active without venturing far from home.
Family Fun
The park features a playground with all the classics - slides and swings set on a wood mulch base that helps keep tumbles safe. Surrounding grassy areas provide a great backdrop for watching kids play or enjoying a casual picnic.
Speaking of picnics, several picnic areas are scattered around the park, with particularly pleasant spots near the restrooms. These make ideal settings for everything from intimate lunches to family barbecues when the weather's nice.
Good to Know
If you're driving, you'll find on-street parking available, but spaces can be limited during busy times. Restrooms are clean and well-maintained during operating seasons but note that they close during winter months.
Keep in mind that smoking and vaping aren't allowed anywhere in the park or within 20 feet of the Boise River Greenbelt, following City of Boise regulations.
The Neighborhood Vibe
Elm Grove Park truly feels like a cozy location tucked into Boise's North End neighborhood. With its peaceful atmosphere, it's become a favorite spot for locals taking morning walks or enjoying a quiet jog.
Dog lovers will appreciate that four-legged friends are welcome, however they must stay leashed at all times. You'll find dog waste stations around the grounds to help keep the park clean for everyone.
Despite its relatively modest size, Elm Grove Park manages to pack in many amenities you'd expect from larger spaces while maintaining the intimate, charming character that makes neighborhood parks so special.
