Maple Grove Park
About Maple Grove Park
A Glimpse into History
Situated in Nampa, Idaho, Maple Grove Park (often called Lakeview Park) stands as the city's oldest green space - and one of its most scenic. Stretching across 44 acres, this park combines scenic views with local history. Back in 1888, a settler named Orson F. Persons homesteaded this land, which once featured Lake Ethel, a man-made body of water. What started as a practical irrigation reservoir eventually became a treasured swimming and fishing spot for locals.
Getting There
You'll discover the park right near Nampa's entrance from the Garrity exit - super convenient whether you're a local or just passing through. This central location has long been a popular gathering place for Nampa residents. Don't worry about the hassle of finding somewhere to park; there's plenty of parking within the grounds, making it easy to access whatever part of the park catches your interest.
What You'll Find
Maple Grove Park has a bit of everything. Planning a family reunion? The picnic shelters can be reserved for gatherings large and small. These covered picnic areas with tables make for perfect spots to enjoy lunch outdoors or host birthday celebrations.
Looking for something more elegant? The rose garden offers a touch of sophistication and frequently represents a backdrop for weddings. And if you're a fan of outdoor performances, the park's amphitheater regularly hosts concerts and plays, adding to the cultural vibrancy of the space.
Get Moving
For the sports enthusiasts, the park doesn't disappoint. Shoot some hoops at Creech's Court basketball facility, catch a game at Les Goodman Baseball Field, or challenge friends to matches at the sand volleyball courts and horseshoe pits.
Bringing the kids? They'll love the playground. If you're looking to stay fit, check out the outdoor fitness gym with various exercise stations. And for a unique experience that combines walking with reading, try StoryWalk - a lovely way to enjoy literature while getting some steps in.
A Touch of History
History buffs will appreciate the park's preservation of local heritage through some interesting displays. An army tank and an old compactor serve as both educational pieces and cool photo ops. The park even once featured a bike racing track, which - although now closed and fenced off - remains part of its storied past.
Natural Beauty
Nature lovers, you're in for a treat. The duck pond offers a peaceful setting where you can feed the ducks or simply sit and reflect. Mature trees dot the landscape, providing welcome shade on hot Idaho days. One thing you'll notice right away is how well-maintained and clean the park is - making every visit pleasant.
Cool Off
When summer temperatures climb, head to the Lakeview Water Park within the grounds. With its beach entry, fun water spray features, and exciting two-story slide, it's the perfect place to beat the heat.
From its historic roots to its modern amenities, Maple Grove Park combines the charm of yesterday with contemporary recreational facilities.
