Located on the near east side of Indianapolis, Washington Park spans an impressive 128 acres of breathing room from city life. The expansive green space features woodlands and wetlands where you can either relax or engage in various activities.

This land once buzzed with the sounds of the Washington Park Children's Zoo, and though the animals have moved on, that family-friendly spirit remains. Nature lovers frequently spot local wildlife while wandering through the park's natural landscapes - a little reminder that you're sharing space with the original residents.

Get Moving

At the heart of community activity stands the Washington Park Family Center, complete with basketball courts, a gym, locker rooms, water fountains, and meeting spaces. The center hosts everything from dance classes to wellness groups getting together.

Outside, the park offers several amenities. There's a playground near the Family Center (heads up - it's getting a makeover for 2025), multiple basketball courts scattered throughout, and a disc golf course that local enthusiasts rave about. Chill Spots

Need space for a gathering? Several picnic shelters dot the landscape, well-suited for family reunions or just hanging out with friends. When nature calls, you can find restrooms inside the Family Center, and during warmer months, portable toilets are sometimes available within the grounds.

Bring your four-legged friends along too - the park is dog-friendly, but you'll need to clean up after them (park rules, not just good manners). With acres of scenic landscape and open grassy areas, there's plenty of room to spread out and do your thing.

Community Heart

Washington Park regularly hosts various events, from house music DJ sets to family gatherings. Need space for your own event? The Family Center offers rental options that work well for community functions or private celebrations.

The park feels surprisingly removed from urban life despite its city location. Walking groups and wellness activities are common here, taking advantage of the spacious, tranquil setting.
