About the Location
Recreation Spaces
The park features a large open play area suitable for team sports practices or casual games. It includes a backstop for baseball or softball activities.
A rentable picnic shelter with a grill is available for community use, though rentals are unavailable from June 1 to August 31, 2024, due to parking lot construction.
Play Areas
Brookview Park offers play equipment designed for children aged 2-5 and 5-12 years old, which is shared with Brookview Elementary School.
The park also provides restroom facilities that are open from April 15 to October 15, weather permitting.
Natural Features and Trails
One of the park's notable features is its connection to the Jordan Creek Trail system, allowing visitors to extend their outdoor activities beyond the park's boundaries.
The park also incorporates native plantings, adding to its natural aesthetics.
Mini-Forest Project
In May 2024, Brookview Park is set to become the site of Iowa's first mini-forest. This project, spanning approximately 2,800 square feet (about the size of a tennis court), aims to create a dense, biodiverse woodland area using native species.
The mini-forest initiative involves community participation, including planting efforts by Brookview Elementary students and local volunteers.
Additional Information
Brookview Park is situated adjacent to Brookview Elementary School and is part of a collaboration between the City of West Des Moines and the Waukee Community School District.
It's important to note that due to the park's proximity to a school, alcohol consumption is not permitted within Brookview Park.
