About the Location
Park Features
Found in Overland Park, Kansas, Osage Park is a cozy 6.5-acre green retreat that punches above its weight in recreational options. This neighborhood haven sits just off W. 87th Street, offering a breath of fresh air within the suburban landscape.
The park features an open area and a multi-use field where you can toss a frisbee, kick a soccer ball, or simply spread out a blanket and cloud-watch. One of our favorite aspects is the well-maintained loop trail that winds through the park - excellent for a morning jog or an evening stroll. The layout makes it easy to keep track of the kids while you get your steps in.
Family-Friendly Amenities
If you've got little ones in tow, the playground is a must-visit spot. It's thoughtfully positioned away from the street, creating a safe haven for children between 2 and 12 years old. Kids enjoy the bouncy ladybug and bee spring riders and the fish bridge with bones in the middle - these unique touches give Osage character compared to typical park playgrounds.
When the Kansas sun is beating down, the mature trees scattered throughout the park provide welcome natural shade. Water fountains are conveniently placed around the grounds, and they've even thought of your four-legged friends with dedicated dog drinking stations.
Picnic and Gathering Spaces
Planning a small get-together? The park includes a reservable shelter equipped with three picnic tables and a small grill - great for family reunions, birthday celebrations, or community meetups. It's conveniently located near the restrooms, which is always a plus when you're spending several hours outdoors.
Beyond the main shelter, you'll discover additional picnic tables dotted around the park, including a peaceful grassy area past the playground that's ideal for more intimate gatherings or a quiet lunch break.
Facilities and Accessibility
The clean, accessible restrooms are well-maintained - a detail that shouldn't be underappreciated in public parks. Dog owners will appreciate the dog waste stations around the grounds (remember, pets need to stay leashed).
Parking is ample and straightforward, making Osage Park easily accessible whether you're a local or coming from elsewhere in Overland Park.
Seasonal Activities
When winter blankets the landscape, Osage Park transforms into a sledding hotspot thanks to its natural hills. There's something magical about seeing the park come alive with children's laughter as they zoom down the snow-covered slopes.
One thing to note - the park extends much further back than it first appears from the street view. This creates a surprisingly peaceful atmosphere despite being tucked within a residential area. It feels somewhat secluded despite being within a residential area.
