Park Overview

Situated in southeast Wichita, Kansas, Boston Park spreads across 19 acres of green space nestled within a residential neighborhood. Dating back to 1966, this gathering space came to life with backing from the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks and the National Park Service through Land and Water Conservation Funds.

The park represents a lively gathering spot while somehow maintaining a peaceful vibe that makes it excellent for escaping the everyday hustle. Regardless of whether you're looking to break a sweat or simply unwind under a tree, this 19-acre oasis has something for everyone.

Water Features

Let's talk about the crown jewel that draws families in droves during those sweltering Kansas summers: the modern splash pad installed in 2021. Kids absolutely love darting through the water features, and honestly, we might be tempted to cool off our feet too on those 90-degree days.

Fair warning though - you might want to bring your own umbrella or pop-up shade tent, as the area could use a few more shady spots when the sun is beating down.

Playground

The playground at Boston Park isn't your average swing-and-slide setup. It features equipment specifically designed to help kids develop their physical abilities and coordination. The undisputed star of the show? The zip line that has local children lining up for their turn to zoom across the playground.

Just note that the equipment tends to be better suited for school-aged kids rather than the toddler crowd. You'll discover this play area conveniently situated between the recreation center and the splash pad.

Sports Facilities

For the athletically inclined, Boston Park features a softball diamond with dirt infield and player benches. The two lighted tennis courts mean you can keep rallying even after sunset, while the basketball/multi-use court regularly hosts impromptu games among locals and visitors alike.

Recreational Amenities

When you're ready to take it easy, the park offers several picnic shelters and portable tables ideal for family gatherings or casual lunches. There's even a whimsically named area called "Troll's Picnic" with some unique features worth checking out.

Boston Recreation Center

At the heart of the park stands the Boston Recreation Center, housing a gymnasium, game room, and rentable indoor spaces ideal for events ranging from birthday parties to community classes. The staff members are known for being helpful if you're interested in booking space for your next gathering.

The center is a place where neighbors connect and various events are held throughout the year.

You'll appreciate that the park is ADA-accessible, with restrooms and parking available to make your visit comfortable. Boston Park welcomes visitors daily from 6AM until midnight.
