About the Location
Park Layout and Origins
Cessna Park is divided into two triangular areas by the Kansas Turnpike. The park was donated by the Cessna Aircraft Company in 1960, establishing its long history in the Wichita community.
Recreational Facilities
The northeast portion of the park focuses primarily on sports with facilities such as basketball courts, tennis courts, and lighted baseball/softball diamonds. In contrast, the southwest area is more oriented towards leisure and picnicking.
A playground with a sand safety surface makes this a family-friendly destination. The park also features a disc golf course and multiple picnic shelters scattered throughout the grounds.
Gypsum Creek Bicycle Path
One of the park's highlights is the connection to the Gypsum Creek Bicycle Path, a 6.5-mile trail running through scenic areas, making it suitable for runners, cyclists, and nature enthusiasts.
Gatherings and Events
Visitors can enjoy an open shelter equipped with lighting and electrical receptacles, perfect for gatherings and small events.
The park blends sports and leisure facilities within a natural setting, making it a perfect place to relax, engage in physical activities, or host community events.
