Toonerville Trolley Park
About Toonerville Trolley Park
A Bit of History & Where to Find It
Nestled at the corner of Brook and Oak streets in the Old Louisville neighborhood, Toonerville Trolley Park has been a green sanctuary since 1978. This 2-acre retreat might be small, but it offers a surprising amount of breathing room in this dense residential area.
Despite its compact size, the park has a clever layout with most of its space tucked between surrounding homes. What's particularly nice is how peaceful it tends to be - you'll rarely find it crowded, making it a wonderful little escape when you need a moment of quiet.
Places to Play
For a small park, Toonerville Trolley doesn't skimp on recreational options. There's a well-kept playground where neighborhood kids can climb, slide, and burn off energy.
Feel like getting active? The fenced-in tennis court and basketball court offer great spots to rally or shoot some hoops without worrying about the ball going astray into the street.
For the Dog Lovers
A notable feature of Toonerville is Louisville's only urban dog run - a place where dogs and their owners come from various parts of the area.
The dog area is impressively sized, with two 100' x 115' sections - one built over a repurposed tennis court and another on a grassy patch at the back of the park. It's an ideal spot for your four-legged friend to run free and make some doggy friends in a safe, enclosed environment.
Note that some parts of the dog park may require membership for access, but there are areas where dogs can play without membership. Remember that in other areas of the park, your pup needs to stay on leash.
Community Green Spaces
Right next to the park on Brook Street, you'll come across a thriving community garden where locals tend to their vegetables and flowers, creating both beauty and bounty.
One of the more charming features is the wildflower and wild bird plot that attracts butterflies, bees, and feathered visitors. It's a little pocket of nature that adds color and life to the park.
Neighborhood Gatherings
Toonerville Trolley functions as both a park and a neighborhood meeting point. Throughout the year, various events including the Old Louisville Springfest bring local residents together.
These gatherings help neighbors connect while enjoying this modest green space in Old Louisville.
