About the Location

Park Overview

Situated on Lafitte Drive in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, LaFitte Street Park is a charming 10-acre park managed by the BREC Parks and Recreation Commission. This peaceful neighborhood space gives you a little touch of nature right in the city, good for when you need some fresh air and green space.

What we love about this park is how it strikes a nice balance between active recreation and just chilling out. Regardless of whether you're looking to break a sweat or simply want to sit under a tree with a good book, the park's 10.12 acres provide plenty of room for both. It's not trying to be the biggest or flashiest park in town - just a reliable, accessible spot where the community can come together and enjoy the outdoors.

Amenities and Facilities

If you've got kids in tow, the playground area is a definite highlight with its modern equipment and safety-conscious wood mulch surface. Sports enthusiasts haven't been forgotten either - you can shoot some hoops on the unlit basketball court, practice your serve at the tennis court, or enjoy some open play on the multi-purpose field.

Need to get your steps in? The recently added outdoor walking loop has become a favorite among locals looking for a convenient place to exercise. We find it's just the right size for a casual stroll or a brisk walk to clear your head after a long day.

For those looking to gather or picnic, the park offers four picnic tables and several benches scattered around the grounds. These spots are meant for a family lunch, catching up with friends, or simply taking a moment to sit and watch the world go by.

Recent Changes

The park has gone through some transformations in recent years. The baseball field that once occupied part of the grounds has been removed, and you'll notice the parking lot is smaller than it used to be.

One thing to note before planning an extended visit: the park no longer has bathroom facilities following the renovation. This might be important to know if you're bringing young children or planning to stay for several hours.
