About the Location
Natural Features
Located in the northwest corner of Ann Arbor, Hollywood Park is a cozy 3-acre green space that packs a lot into its modest footprint. Sitting right next to Abbot Elementary School off Sequoia Parkway, this small space preserves a surprising amount of natural character despite its compact size.
Come springtime, the park displays a lovely carpet of wildflowers that's worth seeing. The thoughtful balance of open grassy areas and wooded sections creates an ideal little retreat when you need a quick nature fix without leaving the city.
Trails and Exploration
The short trails weaving through the wooded areas aren't going to challenge any serious hikers, but that's not really the point here. They're just right for families with little ones who want to dip their toes into nature exploration without committing to a major excursion.
Just a heads up - after a good rain, these paths can get pretty muddy, so maybe skip the white sneakers if there's been recent precipitation.
History and Community Role
Back in the mid-20th century, Hollywood Park found itself at the center of the classic "development versus preservation" debate that so many urban green spaces face. Today, it represents a neighborhood gathering spot, particularly beloved by residents of the Hollywood Park subdivision.
While you can find plenty of grassy areas for play, the park has managed to hold onto some beautiful wooded sections, creating a peaceful setting that appeals to visitors of all ages, but it seems especially magical for younger children.
Location and Accessibility
Tucked into a suburban neighborhood, the park sits in an area that gives you easy access to downtown Ann Arbor, major highways, and plenty of local shops and services.
One thing to note - there's no dedicated parking for the park itself, however you can usually use the elementary school lot when school isn't in session. The good news is that the park is within walking distance of other recreational areas and shopping, making it a convenient stop during a day of neighborhood exploration.
You'll come across additional parkland across the street, but it can sometimes be a bit tricky to tell where park boundaries end and residential properties begin.
