South Maple Park

Location and Size

Nestled on the west side of Ann Arbor, Michigan, South Maple Park sits at the intersection of Liberty and Maple roads. Spanning a generous 70 acres, this community space offers an excellent blend of recreational facilities and natural areas for everyone to enjoy.

Sports Facilities

If you're into sports, you can find plenty of options here. The park houses tennis courts that double as pickleball courts (though heads up - the pickleball courts could use some TLC). Basketball more your thing? There's a basketball court waiting for your next game.

Team sports enthusiasts haven't been forgotten either. Multiple baseball fields and soccer fields accommodate players of all ages and skill levels, making it a great spot for league games or casual weekend matches.

Family-Friendly Areas

Kids will gravitate toward the playground area, which provides a fun escape from screen time. The tire swing is a particular hit with the younger crowd - prepare for requests for "just one more push!" Surrounding the playground, you can find open grass fields that practically beg for frisbee tosses, impromptu soccer games, or simply spreading out a blanket for a lazy afternoon picnic.

Natural Features

One of the park's charming characteristics is its partial shade, thanks to a substantial wooded area that naturally divides the park into two distinct sections. These trees not only create separate recreational spaces but also provide welcome shade during summer months and add to the natural beauty of the setting.

Amenities

Morning joggers and evening strollers will appreciate the paved trail winding through the park. If you're looking to take a break, you'll discover benches scattered throughout, plus a couple of picnic tables near the playground - ideal for snack time or a casual lunch.

Note that there are no bathroom facilities available in the park, so plan accordingly before your visit.

Maintenance

It's worth mentioning that some areas of the park and certain equipment could use some updating. There are renovation plans in the works, however exact timelines aren't currently available. Despite this, the park remains a valuable green space for the west side Ann Arbor community.
